This work explores the relationship between the body and the mind in someone whose mental health is deteriorating. The muse for this work was at the time being consumed themselves by a mental health crisis. The dark cloud around them was consuming and altering the way they interacted with the world.
I wanted to present my subject in a way that reflected how mental health problems seep into all aspects of somebodies life. To evoke ideas of being overloaded by intense confusing and disturbing feelings. The noises, voices, scattered thinking, disturbing images, drained emotions. The obis creeping further and further into your emotional landscape.
A scattered and flickering film element to this work also exists, it is designed to be projected over the painting making the image difficult to look at, mirroring the lack of certainty or stability in sense of self often experienced.
