The Hopper
wire, fabric scrim, plaster
2024
bouncy bouncy.
This work was created as a part of my ongoing series, 'not suitable for children' (NSFC), a collection of childrens' toys and objects rendered in some way or another incapable of performing their intended function. Cast in fragile plaster, the Hopper’s surface also bears the weight of emotional rupture. It is a classic childhood toy transformed into a brittle monument to internalised shame. This vessel of discomfort and disconnection examines how spaces meant for joy can become sites of harm and alienation.
