This work was created as a part of my ongoing series, 'not suitable for children' (NSFC), a collection of childrens' toys and objects rendered in some way or another incapable of performing their intended function. The Bike critiques conflicting cultural narratives regarding enforced self-reliance and dependence through its modified children’s bicycle form. The training wheels, skewed and unusable, are a metaphor for the ‘safe’ systems that condition instability and shame, particularly in early emotional development and care systems.
