'taf'

appliqued fabric , 2012.

created as part of the work for tunnel vision, this fabric lettering considers the label ‘fat’. our society is obsessed with labelling people either too fat or too thin. this obsession with the size of other peoples bodies has transformed an adjective into an insult.

children, i was one of them, often incorrectly learn that their body is ‘defective’. ‘fat’ is hurled as an insult, often incorrectly describing the victims body type, this can lead to the development of body insecurity. coupled with the ever expanding media dominance, a child with trauma and a desire for control this misunderstanding and misuse of an adjective can lead to devastating eating disorders.
